The engineers club of omaha...

...was formed in 1924 to create a forum for presentation and discussions of engineering or engineering-related topics. The Club provides a setting for social interaction and networking among the members. Members are from large and small engineering companies, public utilities, government agencies, and retirees of those same groups. Membership and attendance at regularly scheduled and publicized monthly meetings is open to anyone with an interest in the Club's activities.

    Athletic Facility Design

    Presented by: Caleb Van Weelden, PE, Zack Fergus, PLA, and Paul Gargarella, EIT

    This meeting will be In-Person with a Virtual Option

    This meeting will be held at the Scott Conference Center (6450 Pine Street in Aksarben).  Free Parking in Lot 9 across street (Figure included below). Please submit any unique diet requests a week in advance.

    Presenters: 

    • Caleb Van Weelden is a professional civil engineer with 8-years of experience working on athletic and academic projects. He has been with Lamp Rynearson since 2016 and serves as Project Manager in the Omaha office. Caleb is a member of the American Sports Builders Association and also serves as a Sarpy County Planning Board Member.
    • Zack Fergus is a professional landscape architect with over 10-years of experience developing outdoor spaces used for learning, recreation, and recharging. He has been with Lamp Rynearson since 2015 and serves as the Landscape Architecture Practice Lead in the Omaha office. Zack also serves on several boards and committees outside of the office including the American Society of Landscape Architects Nebraska/Dakotas Chapter and Heartland 2050’s Natural Resource Committee.
    • Paul Gargarella is a Civil Engineer with 8-years of experience at Lamp Rynearson designing many different infrastructure projects in Nebraska with an emphasis on Athletic Field Design. Paul also is a Civil Engineering instructor at Metropolitan Community College.

    Presentation:

    Caleb Van Weelden, Zack Fergus, and Paul Gargarella of Lamp Rynearson will provide an insightful presentation on the civil design of various athletic facilities. This presentation will provide an overview of the design process, from preliminary planning to final construction. We will explore the athletic facility standards, innovative turf systems, and the critical factors that schools and developers consider during site design. Additionally, we will discuss conformance to City of Omaha standards and the essential construction and construction administration (CA) that follows the design process. This presentation will offer a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and best practices in facility design.

    The Engineers Club of Omaha will be hosting our 10th annual golf tournament at Tara Hills Golf Course, Papillion, NE. Proceeds from the event will go to the Engineers Club of Omaha scholarship program. Last year, the tournament raised a record $16,000 which allowed the club to increase scholarships awarded this spring! Join us in celebrating Engineers Club of Omaha's 100th anniversary at this year's golf event!

    Our goal this year is to register 36 teams and raise $20,000 to provide even more student scholarships in 2025. We couldn't do this without the generous support of our members and sponsors!

    The tournament is a 4 person "scramble" format. Entry fee includes - 18 hole green fee, cart rental, a meal, and 2 drink tickets. The option to purchase "mulligans" and other advantages will also be made available to keep the event fun and interesting. This event will be rain or shine. You can register online, in person at ECO meetings, or by mail. On the day of the event, registration begins at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
