The ongoing Riverfront Revitalization project is the redevelopment of the Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park, and Lewis and Clark Landing in downtown Omaha. This project provides for the construction of new park facilities including buildings, recreational elements, play elements, art features, water features, landscaping, and other elements within each of the parks. 13th Street and 8th Street were also reconstructed, and numerous existing utilities were relocated as needed to facilitate the project.

Because of the complexity of the required underground facilities including water, storm, sanitary, communications, and electrical utilities; subdrainage systems; deep foundation systems for the buildings and for the play elements; and other buried facilities a 3 Dimensional clash detection model was developed to manage the design and construction of these buried facilities and manage potential conflicts. The 3D Model has been and continues to be a key tool used by the design and construction teams to mange the design and construction of the facilities.

Douglas Burchett has been leading the 3D Model development effort for HDR and will present on the 3D model. Doug graduated from IWCC with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology in 2002 and has spent his entire career in the civil engineering/surveying industry. Doug has worked on a wide range of engineering projects including in the Railroad Engineering world providing the BNSF Railroad with site specific surveys of bridges and structures across 27 states. He currently works as a Civil BIM Designer for HDR in the building engineering services, BEW group in Omaha.
